Thanks for coming to 'pedallingtoitaly.blogspot.com'. Nothing here to speak of yet, but I'll soon be posting maps, pictures, and general chit-chat ahead of the grand departure Ollie
I'm Ollie Robbins. In July I will be leaving the UK and heading off to Italy- on bicycle. The route will be approximately 1100 miles, and pass through France, Switzerland, to arrive Venice Italy, in mid-August.
I will be doing this adventure to raise money for Kalayaan, a London-based charity.
http://www.kalayaan.org.uk/
Kalayaan is a UK registered charity which was established in 1987 to provide support to migrant domestic workers in the UK (MDWs). The majority are predominantly women from poor backgrounds.
Kalayaan has documented and worked with domestic workers who have routinely endured physical, psychological and sexual abuse, discrimination, low pay and long hours. It is not uncommon for MDWs to work 18-hour days, 6 or 7 days a week. In frequent cases domestic workers have been trafficked in what amounts to a 'secret slave trade', where employers have used passport retention as a means of control.
Kalayaan works with MDWs, to understand their situation and offer advice and support, as well as running classes and workshops to improve the conditions of domestic workers.
I aim to raise £2,000 for Kalayaan. You can donate at http://www.justgiving.com/Oliver-Robbins
Go Ollie, go, go, go!
ReplyDeleteSo so proud I can't wait to hear all the stories.
Just think of all the beautiful Italian women waiting for you when you get there.
